India to design, build reusable rocket for global market: ISRO

India has plans to design and build a new reusable rocket for the global market that would significantly cut the cost of launching satellites, a top government official said on Monday. “…all of us want launches to be much cheaper than what we do today,” Secretary in the Department of Space and Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) S Somanath said.

Addressing the seventh ‘Bengaluru Space Expo 2022’ and later talking to reporters, he noted that at present it takes about USD 10,000 to USD 15,000 to put a one-kg payload into orbit.

On Monday, Amit Shah visited the official residence of chief minister Varsha, to pay his respects to Lord Ganesha.

During his address, Amit Shah told the party workers to expose former Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray in the upcoming BrihanMumbai Muncipal Corporation (BMC) polls. Implying that Uddhav Thackeray's coalition with NCP and Congress amounted to backstabbing, Amit Shah said that Thackeray had ditched the BJP and the Hindutva ideology. It was very difficult to sustain themselves by indulging in the politics of betrayal, he added.

After Liz Truss' election as UK PM, Indian-origin minister Priti Patel resigns

Shortly after Indian-origin MP Rishi Sunak lost the race to 10 Downing Street to UK PM-elect Liz Truss, Indian-origin minister Priti Patel decided to resign as UK Home Secretary. Shortly after the election of Truss as UK PM, Patel wrote to outgoing UK PM Boris Johnson and said that she did not intend to serve in the Cabinet of the newly-elected PM.

"It is my choice to continue my public service to the country and the Witham constituency from the backbenches, once Liz formally assumes office and a new Home Secretary is appointed," Patel wrote in a letter to Boris Johnson. Patel went on to appreciate Johnson's stint as UK PM and said that under his leadership, the party has worked towards making the country safer, strengthened law and order, and delivered manifesto commitments, besides laying a strong foundation for their successors to build on.

Birla Corporation to expand cement production capacity to 30 MTPA by 2030

MP Birla Group firm Birla Corporation plans to increase its cement production capacity by 50 per cent to 30 million tonnes per annum by 2030, the company said in its latest annual report.

The company, which has commissioned a greenfield unit at Mukutban, Maharashtra with an investment of Rs 2,744 crore, has plans to set up some new units and expand the production capacity of the existing units.

"Birla Corporation Ltd is committed to increasing its annual cement production capacity to approximately 30 million tonnes (MT) by 2030. Our current production capacity stands at 20 million tonnes," it said.

She joins 45 other educators from across the country in the honours list.
