#IMD Issues 'Red Alert' As North India Likely To Reel Under Coldwave Conditions

As there is no sign of relief from severe cold conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert on Sunday, indicating that dense to very dense fog and cold day to severe cold day conditions are expected to persist over North India for the next four to five days. North India is grappling with severe coldwave conditions. The alert warns of dense to very dense fog conditions that are likely to continue for the next five days.

The IMD further also predicted that Dense to very dense fog conditions are very likely to prevail over some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh till January 26 morning, IMD added, as per news agency IANS.

#Pannun Case: Czech Republic Court Rules Nikhil Gupta Can Be Extradited To US

The Prague high court has ruled that the Czech Republic can extradite to the United States Nikhil Gupta, an Indian man accused by the US of involvement in an unsuccessful plot to kill Khalistani separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on American soil, the justice ministry said on Friday

Nikhil Gupta, 52, was charged by US prosecutors in New York in an indictment unsealed in November last year with working with an Indian government employee in the foiled plot to kill Pannun, who holds dual US and Canadian citizenships. Gupta was arrested in Prague, the Czech Republic on June 30, 2023, and is being held there currently. The US government is seeking his extradition to America.

#Supreme Court Imposes Rs 1 Lakh Cost On Lawyer For PIL Challenging Rahul Gandhi's Restoration As Lok Sabha Member

The Supreme Court on Friday imposed a cost of Rs one lakh on a Lucknow-based advocate who challenged the restoration of Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi's Lok Sabha membership.

A bench of Justices BR Gavai and Sandeep Mehta found the petition to be frivolous and a waste of judicial time.

Advocate Ashok Pandey challenged the restoration of Gandhi's Lok Sabha membership, who was disqualified after court sentenced him to two years' imprisonment in the criminal defamation case over 'Modi surname' remark.

#Temples Across US Gears Up For Ram Mandir Festivities

Hundreds of temples dotted across the United States are gearing up to celebrate the consecration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya next week, with thousands of Indian Americans likely to attend a series of events beginning this week. "Ayodhya is re-emerging from destruction and neglect, epitomising the eternal nature of Sanātana Dharma. The upcoming consecration at Ram Lalla Mandir after 550 years is bringing immense joy to the city and nearly a billion Hindus across the world," Kalyan Viswanathan, president of the Hindu University of America said in a blog post.

#Iran Pak War: Exchange Of Military Strikes Between Iran And Pakistan

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Thursday expressed deep concerns over the exchange of military strikes between Iran and Pakistan and urged both countries to exercise maximum restraint to avoid a further escalation of tensions.

He underlined that “all security concerns between the two countries must be addressed by peaceful means, through dialogue and cooperation, in accordance with the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and good neighbourly relations,” according to a statement released by Stéphane Dujarric, the spokesperson for the Secretary-General.
