Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud today addressed a unique ceremonial bench as the country's highest court turned 75 years. Similar to the arrangement in 1950 - when the Supreme Court held its first sitting - the Chief Justices of all the high courts also attended the ceremony that was streamed live online.

Chief Justice Chandrachud emphasised three principles that are necessary for the Supreme Court to function according to the constitutional mandate. The first is an independent judiciary, where the Supreme Court must be independent of the legislature and executive.

After tendering his resignation as the Bihar chief minister, Nitish Kumar on Sunday spoke to reporters and gave a few reasons why he decided to dump the Mahagathbandhan government in the state as well as the opposition bloc INDIA and go back to the NDA fold.

"I have submitted my resignation as Bihar CM today. I have also asked the Governor to dissolve the government. Things were not working out well," he said, coming out of the Raj Bhavan after submitting his resignation letter to the Governor.

#Ram Rajya Was Source Of Inspiration For Indian Constitution, Says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that the rule of Lord Ram was a source of inspiration for the makers of the Indian Constitution.

The consecration ceremony of Ram Temple in Ayodhya on January 22 has brought crores of people of the country together, Modi said in the 109th episode of his monthly programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’ broadcast on All India Radio (AIR).

“In part three of the original copy of this very Constitution, the fundamental rights of the citizens of India have been described and it is noteworthy that at the beginning of Part three, the makers of our Constitution had allotted due space to the pictures of Bhagwan Ram, Mata Sita and Lakshman ji,” the prime minister said.

#Modi-Macron Talks Boost India-France Defence, Space And Civil Nuclear Cooperation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron held talks in Jaipur on Thursday and agreed to enhance India-France cooperation in defence, space and civil-nuclear sectors. They also signed a defence industrial roadmap and a defence space partnership agreement. Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra, who briefed the media on Friday, said the defence industrial roadmap will identify opportunities for co-designing, co-development and co-production of military hardware and building defence supply chains. He said the aim is to meet the defence needs of India and France and also to contribute to the security partnership with other countries.

Kwatra said the defence space partnership agreement will enable joint work on a space situational awareness programme, which is important for developing military satellites and sharing information on space traffic and debris.
