#Coronavirus: Daily Cases Again Breach 30K Mark In Pan India Scenario

After a dip on Monday — mostly linked to the weekend’s lower testing — Covid cases again crawled past the 30,000 mark on Tuesday. With data from Jharkhand and Sikkim still awaited, the day saw 30,914 cases and 378 deaths.

After two days, when deaths remained below 300, Tuesday’s tally is again touching 400. This jump is mostly linked to previous days’ deaths declared in the last 24 hours in Kerala.

#Judiciary: Cases Stagnate In SC As Constitution Bench Hearings Remain Pending For Decades

At least 35 cases are pending before the various Constitution Benches of the Supreme Court, many of which would have serious consequences for the legal system of the country, according to a report published by Legal research group Vidhi Center for Legal Policy. These include issues involving the interpretation of tax laws, powers of the court to consider matters relating to religion, reservation policy etc.

The JALDI project -- Justice, Access and Lowering Delays in India study, published on the Vidhi webpage shows that 35 cases are pending before the Constitution Benches of the Supreme court.

All the pending cases also have hundreds of connected matters, which means that the final decision in several hundred cases depends on the decision of the Constitution Bench.

#ChildMolestation: Compromise With Victim No Ground To Let Off Child Molester, Rules Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has refused to grant relief to a person who after being convicted under Section 354 of the IPC (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage modesty) comprom ised with the victim and pleaded to be let off in the case on that ground.

“The petitioner after full trial was convicted under Section 354 of the IPC and his conviction was upheld by the HC. At this stage, the p etitioner has now come with a case that a compromise has been entered into between the petitioner and the complainant/ victim. We find no reason to grant any credence to such compromise which is being entered into after the conviction has been confirmed by the HC under the judgment impugned,” a bench of Justices Ajay Rastogi and Abhay SOka said in its b rief order.

#HijabRow: Controversy Over Hijab 'Completely Meaningless', Says Bihar Cm Nitish Kumar

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday called the ongoing hijab controversy in Karnataka as "completely meaningless" and said it requires no debate.

Giving the example of Bihar, Nitish Kumar said, "The hijab controversy is meaningless. In Bihar school, everyone wears the same type of clothes but if someone puts something on her head (hijab) or sandalwood on the forehead, what can be done about it?"

Nitish Kumar further said that all people have their own way of life and no one should interfere in it.
