Retrospective tax haunts India’s real-money gaming sector

A slew of retrospective tax notices by India's goods and services tax (GST) authorities against real-money gaming companies could spell the death knell for the nascent but fast growing sector, industry sources told Moneycontrol.

"This is now a fight for survival. Even if the entire industry is wound down and liquidated, it will be enough to cover only a fraction of the tax demand,” a top industry executive said.

The market has traded flat with the Sensex gaining 0.02 percent and closed at 66023.69 and Nifty traded flat for intraday and closed at 19674.55 levels whereas Bank Nifty was up by 0.35 percent and settled at 44766.10.

DGCA says it can't interfere in Akasa Air's pilot dispute; 'Don't have power or authority'

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) that was earlier accused by Akasa Air of inaction when 43 of the airline’s pilots quit abruptly, said that it has ruled out intervening in the dispute between the parties. Akasa Air had earlier said in a legal filing that DGCA’s non-intervention has caused the airline "significant financial and operational hardship".

Another setback for Delta Corp: Firm gets intimation alleging Rs 11,139-cr tax liability in GST

Goa-based casino operator Delta Corp Ltd on Friday said it received an intimation from the Directorate General of GST Intelligence, Hyderabad to pay an alleged tax liability of Rs 11,139 crore. Failure to pay the amount will result in a show cause notice being issued to the firm. This tax notice is another setback for Delta Corp, after the GST Council, in July, decided to impose a 28% tax on online gaming, casinos and horse racing.
