FM Nirmala Sitharaman asks for robust global cooperation to fight cross-border tax evasion, avoidance

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has stressed upon the need for robust global cooperation to fight cross-border tax evasion and avoidance.

Addressing the 13th Plenary Meeting of the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes, she called upon the international community for further strengthening and broadening of the tax transparency agenda to include global cooperation on assistance in recovery of taxes, and measures to tackle emerging risks to tax transparency.

"The Global Forum constituted on the initiative of G-20 and has 161 jurisdictions of the world as its members. FM @nsitharaman emphasised on the continued need of robust global cooperation and tax transparency framework to fight cross-border tax evasion and avoidance," the finance ministry said in a tweet.

RTGS to be available 24x7 from December 14: RBI

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Wednesday announced that the money transfer facility, Real Time Gross Settlement System (RTGS), will be available round the clock on all days of the year from December 14, 2020. With this, India will become one of the few countries in the world to operate its RTGS system round the clock throughout the year, says the central bank.

Currently, the transfers facility is available between 7 AM and 6 PM on all working days except for the second and fourth Saturday of the month and on Sundays.

"Round the clock availability of RTGS will provide extended flexibility to businesses for effecting payments and will enable introduction of additional settlement cycles in ancillary payment systems," the RBI said.

Canara Bank shares up by 19 pc; mid cap rises by Rs 2,798.9 cr

Canara Bank shares on Tuesday zoomed nearly 19 per cent after the firm set the floor price for its qualified institutional placement (QIP) to raise up to Rs 2,000 crore.

During the last hour of trading, the banks stock witnessed huge buying and jumped 16.38 percent to close at Rs 136.80 on BSE. During the day, it rose 19.99 per cent to Rs 141.05.

On NSE, it zoomed 18.87 per cent to settle at Rs 139.55. Its market valuation rose by Rs 2,798.9 crore to Rs 19,883.90 crore on BSE.

Indigo to refund tickets cancelled due to COVID-19 before Jan 31

IndiGo has announced that it will reimburse passengers for their tickets cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic by January 31, 2021. The airlines said in a statemnet, "IndiGo is committed to complete payment against all pending credit shells latest by January 31, 2021."

IndiGo's Chief Executive Officer Ronojoy Dutta said in a press release that the unprecedented pandemic brought the airlines' operations to a halt due to which their cash flow dried up.

Dutta was d saying, "However, will the resumption of operations and a steady increase in demand for air travel, our priority has been to refund the credit shell amounts in an expedited manner. We are pleased to commit that we will disburse the full 100% credit shell payments latest by January 31, 2021."

CBI books Unitech MD in Rs 198 crore Canara bank fraud case, conducts searches

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday booked managing director of Unitech, Sanjay Chandra, along with his father Ramesh and brother Ajay for alleged bank fraud of Rs 198 crore in Canara bank.

The CBI also carried out searches at multiple locations at the premises of the Sanjay Chandra.

After relief from a Delhi court on medical grounds, Chandra was on Friday released on interim bail from Tihar Jail after 43 months.

Unitech is facing multiple probes by several agencies including Delhi Police, CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Chandra's alleged role had also figured in the 2G Spectrum scam but he was acquitted by the trial court, news agency PTI reported.
