Flipkart announces measures to help SMBs fight COVID-19 pandemic

Walmart-owned Flipkart on Friday announced a slew of measures, including waiver of various fees paid by sellers, to help small and medium businesses amid the deadly second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Flipkart has exempted the storage fees to curb the impact that any seller may have on their inventory that is fulfilled through Flipkart's fulfilment centres, the e-commerce major said in a statement.

The company is also waiving the cancellation fee till May 31, 2021, for orders that may have been cancelled due to lockdowns in various states, it added.

Tata Steel FY21 net profit doubles to Rs 13,607 crore; board approves Rs 25 dividend

Indian steel major Tata Steel reported a standalone net profit of Rs 13,606.62 crore for the financial year ended March 31, 2021, more than twice recorded in the previous fiscal. The steelmaking arm of Tata group had posted a net profit of Rs 6,743.80 crore in financial year 2019-20, translating into a 101 per cent growth financial year 2020-21.

Going by its India performance, Tata Steel's production capacity in FY21 stood at 16.92 million tonnes, as opposed to 18.20 million tonnes in FY20. The company delivered 17.31 million tonnes of steel during the fiscal under review, as opposed to 16.97 million tonnes in the year-ago period. Reported EBITDA of Tata Steel in FY21 stood at Rs 28,587 crore, as opposed to Rs 17,650 crore in FY20.

Hero MotoCorp's manufacturing facilities to remain shut till May 9 to break Covid-19 chain

To break the Covid-19 chain, Hero MotoCorp has decided to extend the shutdown at its manufacturing facilities across India as well as Global Parts Centre in Neemrana and R&D facility (Centre of Innovation and Technology) in Jaipur, till May 9, 2021. According to the two-wheeler manufacturer, the plant operations will resume a day later on May 10, 2021.

Due to the unprecedented rise in the Covid-19 cases, Hero MotoCorp had halted the plant operations temporarily in a staggered manner for four days from April 22, 2021, till May 1, 2021. The shutdown days were utilised by the company to carry out maintenance work at the manufacturing plants.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai says on India’s Covid crisis ‘Worst is yet to come’

Google chief executive Sundar Pichai said that the Covid-19 situation in India is dire and the 'worst is yet to come'. Google CEO told CNN that it has been 'heartening' to see the kind of attention people at the highest levels in the United States have been giving to the health crisis unfolding in India and other countries. 

“The situation there is dire and it has been heartbreaking to see. And I think the worst is yet to come,” said Pichai. 

“What's been heartening, at least being here, is definitely seeing the attention here. I realise that at the highest levels, from President Biden, secretary Blinken, there has been focus on engaging to see how we can help India and the other countries being affected,” Pichai added.
