BSE Sensex crash wipes out Rs 4.59 lakh crore investors’ wealth today

BSE Sensex and Nifty50 crash on Wednesday led to investors losing a significant amount of money. The BSE Sensex, influenced by weak global trends and a drop in bank stocks, plummeted by 1,628 points. This decline extended from the previous day, with the Sensex settling at 71,500.76, marking a 2.23% decrease. Intraday, the 30-share index reached a low of 71,429.30, falling by 2.32%.

This decline in the equity markets led to a reduction of Rs 4,59,327.64 crore in the market capitalization of BSE-listed companies, bringing it down to Rs 3,70,35,933.18 crore, according to a PTI report. Over the course of two days, investors' wealth decreased by Rs 5,73,576.83 crore.

IndiGo passengers refused to board airline coach; sat on tarmac after landing at Mumbai airport

Many passengers rushed out of an IndiGo aircraft at the Mumbai airport, sat on the tarmac, and some were also seen having food there as soon as their diverted Goa-Delhi flight landed after a long delay on Sunday.

A short video clipping of the incident was shared on social media, following which Mumbai airport claimed that the airport operators in coordination with the Quick Response Team (QRT) of the CISF "cordoned off the passengers into a safety zone".

The DRDO project for the Tapas medium-altitude, long-endurance (MALE) drones, which was first sanctioned way back in February 2011 at an initial cost of Rs 1,650 crore, has been officially closed as a “mission-mode” project, top government sources confirmed on Sunday.

Retail inflation accelerates to 4-month high of 5.69% in December on base effect

India's headline retail inflation rate accelerated to a four-month high of 5.69 percent in December, according to data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation on January 12, thanks to an unfavourable base effect.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation print in November was 5.55 percent.

At 5.69 percent, the latest CPI inflation figure is below expectations, with economists having predicted prices likely rose 5.9 percent year-on-year in December.
