New Delhi: The indefinite bandh from this morning disrupted the normal life in Darjeeling. The call for the bandh is given by Gorkha Janamukti morcha in support of the demand for a separate Gorkha land and also against the state government language policy.
GJM general secretary, Roshan Giri, announced after the party’s central committee meeting that, “All offices of the state government, central government and Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) will be indefinitely closed.” He also added that all signboards in the hills should henceforth be written only in Nepali and English.
On the other hand; the opposition party including BJP, CPIM have criticised Trinamool Congress government policy about hills. However, GJM leaders claimed they will try to ensure minimal disturbance to normal life.
Meanwhile, AIR correspondent reports the State administration have taken adequate measures to maintain law and order as huge deployment of security forces is all over in the Darjeeling hills.
