The Election Commission of India on Sunday suspended Purba Medinipur SP Pravin Prakash claiming laxity in security provided by police to the West Bengal Chief Minister in Nandigram on the day she sustained injury to her foot.

"Charges shall be framed against him for major failure of bandobast," the commission was quoted as saying by a news agency.

Further, the poll panel has appointed former DGP Intelligence of Punjab, Anil Kumar Sharma as Special Police Observer for West Bengal Assembly elections.

Sharma will be the second Special Police Observer, in addition to Vivek Dube.

#Mahapanchayats: 'Do Not Vote For BJP' Advises Farmer Leaders Tikait In Nandigram

Farmers held Mahapanchayats on Saturday in the city and at Nandigram, where CM Mamata Banerjee is in the fray.

Do not vote for the BJP, farmer leader Rakesh Tikait told supporters at the 'Kisan Mahapanchayat' in West Bengal on Saturday. Asking people to defeat the BJP in the upcoming West Bengal assembly elections, Tikait also accused the BJP of causing injury to CM Mamata Banerjee's leg.

Rakesh Tikait of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), Balbir Singh Rajewal, Gurnam Singh Chaduni and Yudhvir Singh were among Samyukta Kisan Morcha leaders who landed in Kolkata for the 'Kisan Mahapanchayat' on Saturday. The farmer leaders are expected to address similar public meetings in Singur and Asansol on Sunday.

#BengalElections: Mamata Banerjee Leaves Hospital On Wheelchair; With Medical Advice, To Take Rest For Few Weeks

Two days after being injured in an alleged attack in Nandigram, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday was discharged from hospital with medica advice from doctors. Notably, she was undergoing treatment at the state-run SSKM hospital in Kolkata. The development comes after the doctors in the hospital earlier in the day said that the chief minister was stable and her improvement is satisfactory.

Mamata Banerjee slept well at night and is responding well to treatment, said doctors at the state-run SSKM hospital, where the TMC supremo was rushed to on Wednesday after being allegedly pushed by unknown people while campaigning for the assembly elections in Nandigram in Purba Medinipore district.

"Our team reviewed her condition this morning. They cut open the temporary plaster on her left leg to see how the injury has healed. A few medical tests might also be conducted," a senior doctor told a news agency.

Denmark, Norway and Iceland on Thursday temporarily suspended the use of AstraZeneca's Covid-19 vaccine over concerns about patients developing post-jab blood clots, as the manufacturer and Europe's medicines watchdog insisted the vaccine was safe.

Denmark was first to announce its suspension, "following reports of serious cases of blood clots" among people who had received the vaccine, the country's Health Authority said in a statement.

It stressed the move was precautionary, and that "it has not been determined, at the time being, that there is a link between the vaccine and the blood clots".

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was allegedly attacked in Nandigram hours after she filed nomination papers on Wednesday. Television channels showed visuals of CM Mamata speaking from inside her car showing injuries in her foot. Sources say, she is being rushed to the hospital. Mamata said, "Someone attacked me and I have received injuries in my foot. Someone deliberately stepped on me" Earlier, Mamata Banerjee filed her nomination paper from Nandigram and was scheduled to stay in the district. However, Mamata has left for Kolkata from Barolia, Nandigram where the incident occurred, for treatment.

Meanwhile, BJP General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya has said," No one can ever dream of attacking Mamata Banerjee."
