#Lok Sabha Ethics Panel Suggests Disqualification For TMC MP Mahua Moitra

Lok Sabha Ethics Committee, on November 9, adopted a report recommending expulsion of TMC MP Mahua Moitra from the Lok Sabha. The report was adopted with a 6-4 vote. The Congress MP Praneet Kaur voted in favour of report while the other four Opposition MPs submit dissent notes.

Moitra as per the report has been indicted for “unethical conduct” and “contempt of the House” for sharing her Lok Sabha log-in credentials with unauthorised personnel. The panel called this a “serious misdemeanor” and recommended “severe punishment”. “In view of highly objectionable, unethical, heinous and criminal conduct” the Committee has recommended “intense, legal, institutional inquiry by Government of India (GOI) in a time bound manner.”

#CBI Probe Against Mahua Moitra Ordered By Anti-Graft Panel, Claims BJP MP

Anti-corruption body Lokpal has ordered a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the corruption allegations against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra, the BJP's Nishikant Dubey posted today on X, formerly Twitter. Ms Moitra has been embroiled in cash for query allegations levelled by Mr Dubey, which is under the lens of the Parliamentary Ethics Committee. In a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, he had demanded her immediate suspension from parliament.

"On basis of my complaint, Lokpal has ordered a CBI probe into the Mahua Moitra's corruption that compromises national security," read a rough translation of BJP MP's post.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday said the Congress boycotted a meeting on the appointment of the Chief Information Commissioner because they “hate Dalits”. On Monday, Heeralal Samariya became India's first Dalit CIC, and was administered the oath of office by President Droupadi Murmu.

As reported by a national daily, Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the Opposition member in the Prime Minister-headed high-powered selection committee, wrote to President Murmu on Monday, saying he was “totally kept in the dark” about the CIC’s selection.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday said Israel will take “overall security responsibility” of the Gaza Strip for an indefinite period once war with Hamas ends, citing that it is necessary to prevent incidents like October 7.

“Israel will, for an indefinite period, have the overall security responsibility. When we don’t have that security responsibility, what we have is the eruption of Hamas terror on a scale that we couldn’t imagine,” Netanyahu said in a television interview with ABC News.

Netanyahu also said a general ceasefire will be discussed only when hostages are released. “There will be no ceasefire — general ceasefire — in Gaza, without the release of our hostages,” he said.

The action follows investigations conducted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against an illegal betting app syndicate and subsequent raids on Mahadev Book in Chhattisgarh, revealing the app’s alleged unlawful operations.
