#GST Council Meet 2023: GoM Decides To Levy 28% GST On Online Gaming, Horse Racing, Casinos

The Group of Ministers (GoM) on July 11 decided to levy a 28 percent GST on the full value of online gaming, horse racing and casinos with no distinction between games of skill and chance in the 50th GST Council Meeting, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on July 11.
"GST Council has decided that online gaming, casinos and horse racing will be taxed at 28 percent at entry point on full face value of bets," FM Sitharaman said.
FM Sitharaman said that changes will be made in the GST law to state that these three supplies are not actionable claims, like that of lottery and betting.

#Rainfall: At Least 34 Dead In North India Rain Rampage, Himachal Worst-Hit

Heavy rain in several parts of north India has brought the region to its knees, claiming more than 34 lives in the past three days.

In cities and towns, many roads and buildings remain submerged in knee-deep water.

The weather department has predicted more downpour for Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Delhi and its adjoining areas over the next couple of days.

#Rainfall: Record Rains Cause Large-Scale Disruption, Floods In North India

Major cities in north India witnessed loss of life and property, disruption in transport and power as heavy rainfall lashed parts of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh, on Sunday, leading to waterlogging, flash floods, and landslides. Twenty major landslides and 17 flash floods in Himachal Pradesh have been reported in the past 48 hours over 30 houses have been completely and partially damaged. All major rivers including Ravi, Beas, Satluj, Swan and Chenab are in spate, officials said. Devastating visuals showing shops, and vehicles being swept away in Himachal Pradesh due to overflown river, triggered by incessant rains, surfaced on social media.

#Bengal Panchayat Polls: 2 TMC Workers Killed In Fresh Violence As Voting Begins

A worker and a booth committee chairman from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) were killed on Friday in fresh spate of violence, hours before polling for the West Bengal panchayat elections began.

Polling began at 7 am on Saturday amid tight security for the West Bengal panchayat elections, in which about 5.67 crore people living in the state's rural areas are eligible to vote, officials said.

In Murshidabad district, TMC worker Babar Ali was killed in Kapasdanga area. He was declared brought dead when he was brought to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital in Baharampur.

#Union Ministers Jyotiradtiya Scindia And Prahlad Patel Meet Nadda As Buzz Of Cabinet Reshuffle Gets Stronger

Union ministers Jyotiraditya Scindia and Prahlad Singh Patel met party president J P Nadda on Wednesday as the party headquarters saw a flurry of activities for the second consecutive day amid a buzz about an organisational and ministerial reshuffle.   

Newly appointed Punjab unit chief of the BJP Sunil Jakhar also visited the party office and met Nadda while Union minister Mansukh Mandaviya went to his residence to meet him.     

Several Union ministers, including Nirmala Sithraman, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Bhupender Yadav, S P S Baghel and Kiren Rijiju met Nadda on Tuesday.
