First Omicron patient submits negative report from private lab, left India on Nov 27, informs K'taka govt

1. Travelled from South Africa on 20/11/2021 with a Negative report from South Africa and he was screened & tested at KIA Bangalore.

2. Upon his arrival, he checked into a hotel on 20/11/2021 and the test reports were POSITIVE

3. The UPI-IC doctor visited the hotel for Physical Triage and found him asymptomatic, He was advised to self isolate at the hotel

4. On 22/11/2021, his test samples were collected and sent for Genomic Sequencing through BEMP

5. The patient took a self Investigation at a private lab on 23/11/2021, the report was NEGATIVE

6. There were 24 primary contacts all are asymptomatic, tested and all reported negative.

7. On 22nd and 23rd UPHC team collected samples from 240 secondary contacts, all tested negative.

8. The above person has checked out on 27/11/2021 at 00:12:34 Mid night. took a cab to Airport . Has travelled to Dubai.

Earlier, in a press conference in New Delhi, the Joint Secretary at Union health ministry, Lav Agarwal, confirmed that two cases of the new Omicron variant of coronavirus have been detected in Karnataka.

Both the patients, aged 66 and 46 years, reported mild symptoms. Agarwal said following the detection of the two Omicron cases through the INSACOG network, all their primary and secondary contacts were traced in time and were being tested.

The Union government urged people to not panic but follow Covid-appropriate behaviour and get vaccinated without delay. "We need not panic about Omicron detection but awareness is absolutely essential. Follow Covid-appropriate behaviour and avoid gatherings," the official said.
