Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Madrid tonight on a two-day visit to Spain on the second leg of his four-nation European tour. Modi was received by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain Alfonso Dastis at air base Torrejon de Androz.
After landing, Prime Minister tweeted in Spanish and English saying marking the start of a very important visit aimed at improving economic and cultural relations with Spain. Discussions on improving trade and economic relations between New Delhi and Madrid will take place during the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Spanish leadership.
Modi will hold discussions with his Spanish counterpart Mariano Rajoy tomorrow on ways to deepen bilateral engagement, including in the high-tech sector. He will also call on King Felipe VI of Spain.
A number of agreements are also expected to be inked. Ways to tackle and fight the growing menace of terrorism will also be high on the agenda during the talks. Modi will meet top Chief Executive Officers of the Spanish industry tomorrow and encourage them to partner in the ‘Make in India’ initiative of his government. This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister since 1988.
From Spain, Modi will travel to St Petersburg in Russia on June 1 where he will hold the 18th India-Russia annual Summit with President Vladimir Putin and attend the St Petersburg International Economic Forum the next day.
The Prime Minister will be in Paris on June 2 and 3 where he will hold official talks with newly elected French President Emmanuel Macron with a view to further strengthening India-France strategic ties.
