Highly Explosive Substance PETN Found In UP Assembly; Enough To Blow Up Complete Structure

New Delhi: A packet containing 100 grams of the highly explosive substance PETN was found in the UP Assembly on July 13. This packet was found under the chair of the Leader of the Opposition, Ram KobindChaudhary. The packet had somehow been missed by the security and the sniffer dogs. 

PETN is an abbreviation of Pentaerythritoltetranitrate, a substance very similar to Nitroglycerine. 500 grams of PETN is enough to completely demolish the UP Assembly building. 

The CM, Yogi Adityanath, while ruing the absence of a Quick Response Team in the state, said that some people were intent on causing mischief and called for tighter security. Adityanath called for the NIA to probe this incident urgently as it could have been executed with the connivance of a terrorist or militant group.

Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker HridayNarain Dixit said Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and Quick Response Teams will be deployed at Assembly premises.

Furthermore, all entry passes issued to other than MLA and his representative stand cancelled. It was also announced to cancel vehicle passes issued to Ex MLAs and only one vehicle pass will be valid for sitting MLA and police verification of drivers engaged with sitting MLAs and non-regular employee of the secretariat and legislature is to be done.
