Pak again violates ceasefire in J&K: 2 civilians killed in firing

New Delhi:On Saturday morning an Army soldier and his wife were killed while few others suffered injuries when the Pakistani army violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Pakistan Army resorted to heavy mortar shelling and targeted Indian posts and villages in Chakka da bagh and KharriKarmara areas. Intelligence sources also revealed that, Pakistan wants to send terrorists to the other side of the border using cover fire.

Identifying the deceased civilian couple as Mohammad Showkat and Safia Bi, sources said that both were sitting inside their house when a Pakistani shell pierced through their roof and fell near them. 

According to reports, the army soldier who was on leave along with his wife, died on spot. And because of heavy firing from the Pakistan side, even the ambulance was unable to reach the village to collect the bodies. 

A defence ministry spokesperson Lt Colonel Manish Mehta, while pointing that firing from across the LoC started at 6.30 am, said , “Pakistani troops were resorting to unprovoked and indiscriminate firing from small arms, automatics and mortars.” He added , “The Indian Army is retaliating strongly and effectively.”

The ceasefire violation came after nearly a week as last time, Pakistan had resorted mortar shelling and small arms fire in Bhimber Gali (BG) sector on June 30. Other ceasefire incidents include date such as June 26, June 29 and June 22.
