The Indian Navy has rescued 33 Bangladesh nationals in a major operation in the country hit hard by Cyclone Mora. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Gopal Baglay in a tweet said INS Sumitra has rescued 33 people including children, women and elders.
The search and rescue operations by the Indian Navy are in full swing following destruction caused by Mora. At least six persons were killed as Cyclone Mora made landfall in Bangladesh yesterday, causing widespread destruction and rendering millions of people homeless.
Meanwhile, in Mizoram the cyclone accompanied by heavy showers and gusty winds lashed yesterday disrupting power and telecommunication network, damaging houses and triggering landslides. Disaster Management and Rehabilitation department officials today said the rains had triggered landslides in many places.
Around 20 houses were partially damaged at Khawbung village bordering Myanmar while the roof of a district hospital ward was blown away in Siaha district. However, no human casualty is reported from the State, said the official.
