CM Siddaramaiah To Contest From Chamundeshwari In Mysuru


New Delhi: It has been made clear from list that the Congress has declared chief minister Siddaramaiah will contest from only one seat, Chamundeshwari, in the Mysuru district. Speculations was rife that the CM might contest from two seats for the May 12 assembly elections. In the first list of 218 candidates for the 224 seats released by the ruling party on Sunday, 103 of the 122 sitting MLAs have been given the tickets.
There are seven debutant candidates who are family members of either sitting or former MLAs. Siddaramaiah’s son Yathindra gets the ticket from Varuna constituency, where his father had won in 2008 and 2013.
The party has fielded GB Malathesh against BharatiyaJanata Party’s (BJP) chief ministerial candidate B S Yeddyurappa from Shikaripura constituency. Senior Congress leader MallikarjunKharge’s son PriyankKharge will contest from Chittapur.

Of the six constituencies for which candidates have not been announced includes Shanti Nagar in Bengaluru Central whose MLA Nalapad Ahmed Haris’ son was arrested for attacking a person at a city pub.
Other candidates include home minister Ramalainga Reddy (BTM Layout), his daughter Soumya (Jayanagar), law minister TB Jayachandra’s son Santhosh, member of Parliament KH Muniyappa’s daughter RoopaSasidhar, and wife of former Union minister Qamarul Islam (who recently passed away), K Fatima, have been given tickets.
The Congress has also given tickets to 11 MLAs who joined it in the run-up to the assembly polls. Industrialist Ashok Kheny will contest once again from Bidar South. Recent inductees from BJP, Anand Singh and B Nagendra, the former close aides of the Reddy brothers of Ballari who were named in cases of illegal mining, have been fielded from the Ballari district.
