New Delhi: Former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit has termed her conscious decision to function in harmony with Union governments of the time as the reason for being able to govern the city successfully for three terms since 1998.

Ex-CM Sheila Dikshit makes debut as author, in her first book Dilli Meri Dilli: Before and After 1998, looks at the Capital’s changing face.

The pictorial book traces the evolution of the city of Delhi over the centuries, and puts in perspective its impressive transformation since the beginning of the new millennium.

Replete with pictures on subjects like heritage, culture, law, gender equality, urban environment, education, sports and transport, the book, brought out by Palimpsest Publishers, also has comments by people like Mark Tully, E Sreedharan and Sunita Narain among others.

Photographs showing what Delhi Transport Corporation buses looked like before are compared to the low-floor buses.

“You cannot let Delhi down, the greatest of rulers reigned from here,” Ms. Dikshit writes in the book.

While discussing it at World book Fair, former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit says, was written during the 15-year tenure of the Congress government that ended in 2013.

“What disappoints me is that many things that we started have not yet been completed. The Signature Bridge project as well as many other flyovers is pending. My only wish and desire is that the current government completes these projects,” Ms. Dikshit said, as she looked back on her experiences.

Though the coffee-table book is yet to be officially released yet, Ms. Dikshit said that her autobiography would also be coming out soon.
