New Delhi World Book Fair to Organize a 9 Day Literary Extravaganza Featuring European Union as the Guest of Honour


New Delhi: In an effort to open rich European literary and cultural production, this year’s New Delhi World Book Fair (WBF) being held at Pragati Maidan, will have European Union as the guest country. The fair will be held from January 6thto 14th 2018.

“In what promises to be a treat for visitors, the European Union  will bring together books, authors, publishers, illustrators, poets and artistes from 13 EU Member States (Austria, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Sweden) and Switzerland, said H.E. Mr. Tomasz Kozlowski, Ambassador of the European Union.

The nine-day literary extravaganza will see participation from over 32 well-known authors, publishers, and illustrators from the EU.   The EU along with its participating Member States will organize over 35 events comprising book readings, workshops for children, debates, panel discussions, book launches, poetry and translation slams.

Some of the highlights of the fair include, 12 authors featuring literature from 9 EU Countries on 7th January, a crash course in creating comics on 6th January, Panel discussion on the topic “Climate Diplomacy: Innovative approaches for a climate-resilient, low-carbon future in India and Europe” on 10th January and many other.

There will be well-known European publishers, authors and illustrators participating in the New Delhi World Book Fair including Antoine Gallimard, Anne-Solange Noble, Judith Becqueriaux, David Foenkinos and Fabrice Piaultfrom France to name few.

There will be number of workshops/ events on off-beat and interesting topics which one can enjoy including: Publishing in the digital age by Antoine Gallimard; Creative Resistance: Writers in the Face of Fascism and War; how to make art for a living and become a successful writer and artist and many more in the event.

With Environment and Climate Change as the theme ofthis year's WBFthe EU will take the opportunity to discuss urgent global issues pertaining to sustainability. With over a million footfalls, the New Delhi World Book Fair can contribute to creating awareness, openness and change in society. The theme for the EU pavilion, accordingly, is READ | LEARN | CHANGE.
